The Xaló rastro market returns this Saturday June 6th.  However, there are a few changes.  As a result of the Covid-19 health crisis, the market has been stopped since last March. Now, the town council has decided to restart it, but with a series of special measures.

To begin with, only 25% of the stalls will be set up and it has been prioritized that they will be for antiques. “It is a way to go back to the origins of the rastro market, which started with these stalls” explained the councillor of commerce, Lore Blasco, who has also stated that “we have managed to be one of the first rastros to reopen after the restrictions”.

The rastro market is an economic hub for the town and the town council had established its opening as a priority in the revival of the local economy, always respecting all security measures and social distancing.

The stalls that will open have had to fill in new technical data sheets specifying the characteristics of the items they sell. In fact, the councilor of commerce has explained that “we are taking advantage of this juncture to give some breathing space to the rastro market, which has been growing non-stop for almost 30 years. Now is the time to determine what kind of stalls we want at the market”.

The capacity of the market will be controlled, so there will be local police, more staff from the town council and the support of an external security company. Access with a mask will be mandatory and at all times it will be communicated to people to maintain safety distances. The rastro will open at 9:00 at the same site as usual, La Xopà.

Support for shops and food establishments

It was in the proposal of the town council to reactivate the commercial activity of Xaló safely and as soon as possible. Throughout the last few weeks, we have distributed 300 protective screens to the local businesses. With regard to bars and restaurants, the council continues with the policy of allowing them to have more outdoor space and more tables. Therefore, this weekend a stretch of Calle San Judas will become pedestrianised, so the restaurants on that street can have more terrace space.
